A life-changing year of my life~
- more change than any other year. so much stuff happened - here's only a brief summary of what I can recall now. so blessed. main thing is GOD - he is here for us no matter what. one constant~

Summary:
• truly accepting god in my life - attending YF/CCCB
• Brothers and sisters in Christ <3
• New job started this month. So blessed!
• Tutoring
• New uni/course – 4 more years to go
• Taking up violin again – after 5 years and thought I’d quit forever
• Been on 2 camps
• Crew? Fun memories doing random things…great fellowship
• Been sick more than I can remember D: older I get the less immunity I have? And I’m not even an adult or 20 yet haha
• One-on-ones with Susana
• Being a KID sometimes…embracing the inner child + MUCH MOREEEEEEEEE!

intelligence and grades! correlation?

It's interesting that nearly anyone that does well (eg. gets top grades), automatically gets told that you are so smart and/or such a nerd ><. it can get quite annoying.

I don't believe there's a clear correlation between intelligence and grades:
- a person can be seen as 'smart' but can't produce grades due to bad exam techniques, stress, extreme laziness (poor preparation), mind blanks out etc.
- on the other hand an 'average' person may produce top grades because they know how to study/cram well, stress less, spends more time revising, have good exam techniques or luck/educational guesses (eg. MCQ), better time management skills etc.

I do believe that a person would have average or above average intelligence in most cases to achieve good grades. However, a grade is largely a result of what you're able to recall/apply and how you use the time effectively during the exam.

food for thought:
- so what is true intelligence anyway?
- can you really measure it or maybe its a combination of things?

anyway good luck with everyone's results =)

Tutoring :)

I'm looking for a new job preferably in the optical industry but also wouldn't mind tutoring kiddies :)

As some of you probably already know, I've been tutoring for one year now and looking for new students as mine have graduated. What better time to tutor when there's 3 months of holidays ahead right?! I also think it's a great time to get ahead in preparation for 2010.

Anyway link is:

http://www.tutorfinder.com.au/tutors/detail.php?TutorID=7183

(Couldn't fit this link of my msn status thing)

Does anyone know who any primary/high school/uni kids that may possibly need help and therefore may require tutoring? If so, Could you please pass on my details, thanks or give me their details.

holssssssss

It's been an eventful week since finishing last exams and very tiring i must add.

Highlights of the week:
-bought new family car
-catching up with people haven't seen in ages + new moon (wasn't too bad but LAME)
-maxi DRESS
-BEACH with sote (thank you drivers for taking us to coast yay)
-yf break up (epic fail @ marfia & sardines)
-baptism study & sermon this week were very similar: temptations of satan to hinder us from doing god's work or glorifying him. so much to reflect on! For instance, how easy it is to fall into temptations and make excuses from like praying or reading god's word and ultimately preventing us from putting god first... tiredness, busy with work, uni/exams etc, idols, power of sin (guilt/shame) and so much more. its been such a struggle lately even now that exams are over.

yes, bek fails at updating. must NOT waste hols aimlessly even if that means less blogging =P.

GOT ESV btw and its awesome...love the depth it goes into and the stuff it has at the back =]

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAY for tomorrow =)! *shake*

wants or needs?

I realise i want/need a quite a few things well for quite some time now:

  • ESV study bible from koorong (20% off now yay)...online version is awesome but it'd be good to have a copy on hand. it's so useful!! i want to get the non-hardcover version real soon. less procrastination on the net. can't wait to get one even during exams!
  • holiday trip - coast/melbourne/sydney with friends =D
  • netbook for uni with windows 7 or best to stick with xp =S?! my dodgy, extremely slow laptop still doesn't have an 's' key haha. which netbook you guys reckon is good?? i'm liking asus eee 1000H (its less than $500 and has 9.5 hr battery life apparently!!!)
8 days left! epic cram and anti-socialism continues. eye diseases - interesting kinda! so many unknown terms o.O.

toga - hmmm....don't have anything yet.

good luckie everyone with exams. oh & STAY OFF FACEBOOK guys and girls.

epic weekend

i love weekends. fridays are my fave part of week coz it means weekends coming soon.
  • my longest facebook ban has already commenced and will go for 2 + weeks (will probably be longer...even when exams are over) - not just coz of exams. i don't waste time stalking or it to continue to my idol or waste my life. what was life even like before facebook? does anyone remember? good ol' days....i reckon =D. help me keep to this. under new ownership for now. i might to do all of november without it. we'll see.
  • HIGHLIGHT = Sister's night was totally WOW. pretty sure i speak on behalf of everyone when i say you guys well exceeded our expectations =O and we did have pretty good expectations prior to the night. performance highlights = single ladies dance, singing and fat 5 dance...so many laughs and great memories. thanks so much brothers!
  • baptisms...wow! congrats joyce.
  • happy birthday mikey! all the best continuing serving god in yuchih giving back all glory.
bek's boring blog continues.
now study...oh fun! start again tomorrow =(.

break

sick of study already - 15 days more of it =(. lot more to cram into my head - lucky my 3 subjects cross over a bit but so much to learn still.

random things:
- haven't left the house since sunday and won't til tomorrow night! longest period i haven't been out in ages. HERMIT much? =P
- "Humility" (C.J Mahoney) - is a really good book to read even during exams - beats study anyday. it has lots of applications and thinks to think about.
- created twitter yesterday: www.twitter.com/bekkielim duno exactly why. not going to use it now. fb is enough already. disactivate or self-control? hmmm.

Countdown:
16 days til freedom!

FINALLY update

I totally suck at updating blogs. Keep forgetting i have one. Thanks to those who reminded me about it and updating. will try to update more =). prepare for a super LONG entry....of bek's extremely boring life!

WOOHOO first year down nearly - well no more new learning except obviously of those lectures that i've missed (anatomy fri 6-8pm lectures)! SOTE finished =(. SOTE was such an awesome group - gonna miss it - we had 3 amazing leaders and a great bunch of youngens (i am actually quite old in the group! 4th or 5th youngest haha).

SWOTVAC/exams -
Some reason i'm not stressed about exams (well not yet which is good and bad) - probably coz my first exam is 2 weeks away and it's not worth that much. If i'm stressed - i'm really stressed and can get sick. If i'm not stressed i might not get work done so there should be an optimum level of stress. need motivation! Its a strange feeling to be so not stressed - not complaining exactly ;D.

Operation Christmas Child -
wow, awesome just sums it up! 3000 boxes in 1 night! new record apparently. great team work. To be part of something so life changing to the lives of disadvantaged children in different countries (eg. vietnam) - thanks to yf and god for such an opportunity for yfers to serve in this way. it was quite sad that we had to chuck away so much stuff into the 'reject bin' but fortunately some of it may go to other charities. have no idea why so many people put small lollies and marbles for 3 year olds! OH YEAH, Had so much fun playing with the various muppets and toys xD...yes, i'm still quite a kid sometimes hahahaha. people really did put a lot of effort into the boxes - christmas cards even some with photos. Free exercise for a good cause! =) doesn't get any better than that!

Reflections on life -
I've been reflecting on life this year lately since starting YF compared to last year and WOW, it's been completely different and it continues to change everyday. Never expected so much to be the way they are. its full of surprises but i prefer this year so much more and can't wait to future to see what god has installed. NOt revealing much ....stay tuned and wait til my testimony =P.

Looking forward to:
- going to first ever wedding (congrats iggy!)
- baptisms
- girl's/guy's night - should be fun!
- catching up with girls coz i've been rather anti-social
- completing my testimony .... something inspiring hopefully!

Prayer points:
- make most of opportunities to study and glorify god in everything
- no slacking and eagerly wanting to spend quiet time reading bible and many christian books i borrowed (and applying it!)
- exams: first exam on 9th and last two on the 13th
- continue to change my heart (great sermon last few weeks) and trusting him more.
- complain less and realise how great god is to everyone (be more appreciative)!

please msg me prayer points anyone too! =)

From The Inside Out

MY MOST FAVE SONG since YF camp :). Such amazing lyrics.
love love LOVE it. stuck in my head hehe. Can't believe
i still love it so much...i'm usually over songs quickly.
Every word/line of this song really speaks to me...it's
just so beautiful and makes me smile even when i'm feeling
down =D

From The Inside Out - Hillsong

A thousand times I've failed
Still your mercy remains
And should I stumble again
Still I'm caught in your grace

Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame
my heart and my soul, Lord I give you control
Consume me from the inside out Lord
Let justice and praise become my embrace
To love You from the inside out

Your will above all else, my purpose remains
The art of losing myself in bringing you praise

Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame
In my heart, in my soul, Lord I give you control
Consume me from the inside out Lord
Let justice and praise become my embrace
To love You from the inside out

Chorus 2x
Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart is to bring You praise
From the inside out Lord, my soul cries out

Annoyance

Lately i've been feeling quited annoyed for a number of reasons.

Getting bugging me about going to KK:
It happens around every kk so far and i'm starting to get quite annoyed. I say NO and state honestly why i don't want to and some people just don't respect this and try to persuade me more or make me feel bad. I've been once last year and I am pretty sure I won't go ever again. I really don't like clubbing or kk although it's not that bad to see people you haven't seen in ages - you're bound to bump into so many people especially from bshs. Heard Black Eyed Peas were there though? True or rumour? Anyway, end of story - I honestly don't feel like i'm missing out on anything. Rather spend night at home :D.

Another minor thing that annoyed me is:
exam timetable got changed -> 2 exams now on last day - one at 8:30 am and other at 5:30pm. 5 hours of exams yay in a day.

I really love this scripture in Philippians...it's been helping me get through tough times or when I feel down or can't do anything. It is so hard to find contentment in christ sometimes but this helps i think:
"I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation...I can do everything through him who gives me strength." (Philippians 4:12-13). The whole book on Philippians is amazing to see how Paul rejoiced in christ no matter what even in chains. Probably one of my favourite books i've read so far.

Missions night at CCCB st lucia should be good tomorrow night!!! can't wait =)

can't believe half of hols over & what have i done so far?
2 days of catching up with friends + DFO today with mum. Study - pretty non-existent like expected. should do assignments but it can wait a bit more. procrastinate much?

yay =D

WOOT! Found my exam timetable - out so early but hopefully it doesn't change... so incredibly HAPPY!!! =D

Unit Paper name Exam date Exam time Exam duration
LSB255 CT1 HUMAN ANATOMY 31 Oct 2009 08:30 am 02:40
LSB492 MICROBIOLOGY 13 Nov 2009 05:30 pm 02:10
LSB250 HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY 09 Nov 2009 08:30 am 03:10

awesome exam timetable - probably means i'll probably be lazy so feel free to kick me maybe hahahaha =P. Microbiology should die though! Learning so many different microorganisms with wierd names =S. i'll just be happy to pass honestly. dodgy lecturer ><. Such a gay subject -sorry about my rant although it is an interesting subject i guess.

anyway, away from uni: i've still been extremely antisocial - haven't been out in 2 days, make that 3 after tomorrow but yeah i don't really mind that much. Really great to have time alone to think about important things and spend time with family and god. SUPE was awesome. great discussions. Lots to think about, even though i'm sure we all think about bgr haha. Main thing i got was gotta be content with christ first and foremost. god is really great :). lately, i've been so encouraged to see how he has worked amongst quite a number of my friends, anything is truly possible with him.

I am also so grateful that I still have a job and related to my degree and in this economic downturn. There were two stores open and about a month ago, the old store finally closed and everything got shifted to the new store. Basically, I haven't worked for 3 weeks and I called my boss up to ask about my shifts and he told me he couldn't give me anything for at least another month or 2 as the business has been pretty bad. Not surprising considering, I MADE $3 (nylon cord) IN LIKE 5-6 SHIFTS when i worked at the new store!! I was pretty worried as I haven't learnt anything or practised my skills for 2 months and had already forgotten quite a lot. Thankfully, he gave me the option to work at Browns Plains so here I am now - had my first shift last saturday and it was a pretty cruisey day. I must say people are quite rude (having worked there during the winter hols) but I am blessed to even have a job and the woman and optom i work with are both lovely and helpful. They both helped me to 'revise' the basic stuff - basic dispensing, measuring PDs and dotting pupils etc. I think it will be a great opportunity to be able learn to how to deal maturely and nicely with all patients (in a godly way) - difficult, rude or whether.

So relaxed

I have 3 things due before the midsem break and i'm not stressing. funny how i'm not that stressed. I should be like super stressed but i'm not. strange but good =).

last week's been hectic especially last friday. Had 2 exams on friday, one of which was at 6pm!!! Anatomy ><. Glad that god helped me through it. Pray really helps beforehand. My mind was so slow at the start but it got better thankfully.

anyway i have a lot of free time this year, ppl keep asking me what i do? well, indeed that's a good question. what would you do? I do procrastinate quite a lot. I realise i have been rather anti-social this semester (not that i'm studying consistently) compared with last semester but it's been really good to spend a lot more quiet time with god and learning more about myself and spending time with family more and occasionally hanging out with friends. nothing interesting but i don't mind having things this way. i guess i am introverted although mum thinks i'm extroverted. haha.

So many b'days this month and next month it's insane! Happy OLD month =P j/ks. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL SEPT & OCT babies! Just realised as I went shopping from 2 cards today.

anyway, how do you add people on your profile (link to other ppl's blogs)? I have noticed that some ppl have added me but i have no idea how to add it onto my page. please help thnx ^^. i'm a big noob at this.

i fail at updating as you can tell =p. can't wait til holis!

Blogger Bekkie =O

WOW, seems like just about everyone has a blog now!! The number of yfers having a blogspot amazes me and how many of you can update it so often is like whoa! I guess it's classified as a form of procrastination but i think it's always good to reflect on many things or your day/week. i shall put some effort into this entry! It's always good to reflect and learn from things. Hope i won't bore you guys too much =P

Here's what's been happening in my second semester so far (7 weeks already!):
  • BLT+ : It was definitely one of the highlights of the year for me in terms of my christian walk. It was about desiring god from the heart as many already know -> see yfonline.wordpress.com for a summary!
  • Uni: I went from 1-> 3 subjects. It took several weeks for me to adjust to the huge increase in workload. nerd much? As you can imagine, i have to study a lot more now. Oh i love my fridays, 11 hours of uni => 7 hours. yay for lecture recordings! First midsemester last friday and 1 a week now til sept hols. yay!
  • Friends: God has truly blessed me with some very special christian friends this year whom I can trust, have fellowship and share my burdens with. At the same time, it has become harder to maintain friendships with non-christians but it's important to keep in touch with them too. Gotta find the balance i guess.
  • Work: I haven't learnt anything this semester so far =(. I've only sold one nylon cord $3 haha. Some may say I'm so lazy. It's because we had two stores open and it was the newer store I was working at was super quiet so i studied as there was NO internet and customers.
  • GOD: I love how god continually reveals himself to us in so many ways...it's something i've realised so much lately. He is constantly changing us as we seek him more =D. He has also made me realise that despite the tough situations we face, he won't ever us let us endure anything that we can't bear and he will deliver us free from it eventually if we faithfully trust him. He knows best and we should wait patiently on him with complete joy in everything.
Congrats to all 6 people who got baptised today too!
